Whoever asks for access to a loan needs exactly 1000 USD more than last summer for example. The average loan requested in the 30,000 loan applications presented in the period between October 2015 and March 2016 amounts to just over 11,000 USD, slightly exceeding the values ​​of a year ago (+ 0.4%).

Man, forty-two years old, is the identikit of the typical applicant : he represents 73.4% of the examined sample, against 26.6% of women, and counts on a salary of about 1,550 USD per month (+ 1.8% compared to the previous detection). It requires more and will repay in more time (but only slightly) the money received, or in 66 installments on average, spread over five and a half years.

NEED LIQUIDITY AND CARS USE THE CAUSES OF DEBT

The need for liquidity is the first lever in Italian credit access. In fact, according to bankate and credither’s analysis, it is the most common motivation at the moment of the estimate of a loan, with 24.4% of the requests, however decreasing compared to six months ago (28% of requests ).

The second most common purpose is the purchase of used cars: 21.7% of requests against 20.4% of the total registered in the past. The automotive sector as a whole represents, in general, one of the most important items both in financing for the new and used vehicles, growing as a loan with almost 3 percentage points. Among the most common needs that push Italians to apply for a loan there is also the restructuring of buildings, which after the past decline confirms the interest shown by Italians in this half-year (it reaches 17.2, while six months ago we were at 14.6%), also favored by the restructuring bonus offered by the State. On the other hand, the consolidation of debts is declining   halved compared to six months ago, with 6.25% of requests against 12.7% in the previous survey. At the end we find furniture loans (9.1%) and those to pay medical expenses (4.7%).

WOMEN ASK FOR A LOAN TO RESTORE THE HOUSE

The gap between men and women remains, both in terms of the amount requested and the salary available for repayment of the loan: not only do women make less use of personal loans, but they aim for lower amounts (10,400 against 11,300 USD), to be reimbursed counting a salary of 1,350 USD, against the 1,600 USD of men.

The sex employs the loan to obtain liquidity (27.4%) and pay for the restructuring of the house, while the man aims in the same way for used cars and liquidity (23.4%).

Larger loan applications were registered in Trentino Alto Adige (which passes from the second to the first position with 12,000 USD), Sardinia (11,500) and Veneto (11,400 USD). The increase in the average amounts requested is more evident in particular in Lazio (+ 14.8%), Molise (+ 13.8%) and Campania (+ 11.9%).

What is the duration of the requested loans? Ranging from 63 months in the Marche to 70 months in the Valle d’Aosta. Average salaries to repay the requested loan are more or less homogeneous in all regions, with figures between 1,450 and 1,600 USD, excluding the peak in Trentino Alto Adige (1,700 USD).
